Banking and the wild

release of Takdir the Tiger Cub on 2nd February 2005 at Goodbooks Bookstore, Chennai

Some books are meant to happen. From the time Radhika Menon (Managing Editor, Tulika) dropped by at the Rana's wildlife photo exhibition in Mumbai to pursue a spark of an idea, little Takdir seemed destined to sit on Tulika's shelves.

This bilingual picture book in nine languages brought together wildlife biologist Latika Rana, her husband, the acclaimed wildlife photographer Nanda S J B Rana, and the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, a bank enthusiastic about wildlife conservation and "innovative projects for children which enhance their learning abilities."

Children listen in rapt attention to well-known theatre personality P C Ramakrishna as he reads out Takdir's story in English and Tamil... The reading was accompanied by a slide show of the stunning photographs used in the book.

Left: Malini Thadani (Sr VP, Public Affairs, HSBC) is presented the first copy of the book.

Right: Prakash Kuruvilla (Regional Head, Southern India, HSBC) and P C Ramakrishna muse over tea after the launch.

Proceeds from the sale of the book will be utilised by HSBC to support nature and conservation projects in Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh, with which Latika and Nanda Rana are closely associated.
