Birdy Talkies

Casting for a superhit film takes some doing!

The great Mor Khan is about to find out in Birdywood Buzz,
a new picture book set in a world of twittering, fluttering,
grovelling, preening, high-flying avians!

Shamim Padamsee, a bird-loving author, cleverly casts actual bird species with their distinctive looks and features. And the plot isn’t just a smart take on filmy business. It also makes a statement, serves up drama and a surprise ending... even before the superhit film is made!
Ashok Rajagopalan’s art with ‘attitude’ and Shamim’s hilarious text, capture the glamour,
the humour and the action for over the top movie magic!

Explore art

That’s what teachers and children can do with Dots and Lines: a teaching resource for art, by Tarit Bhattacharjee. The latest in the Tulika Teacher Resource series, this one works well as a handbook for anybody interested
in understanding basic art concepts.
Through a series of exercises and activities born out of actual classroom experiments and observations, the book will help nurture an
artistic temper in children by opening up their eyes and minds so their
hands can create freely.
Trained at Shantiniketan, Kala Bhavan, Tarit is an art teacher of
many years standing at The School, KFI, Chennai. Nomita Khatri compiled and designed the book while interning with Tulika, as part of her diploma project for the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore.

Back in paperback!

Two of our finest books, And Land was Born and A Tree in My Village are now available in
paperback editions.
And Land Was Born is a creation story that celebrates the unfettered nature of the
oral tradition. Uma Krishnaswamy’s splendid pictures add visual magic to the joyous, playful
irreverence of Sandhya Rao’s text.
In A Tree in My Village, renowned painter Paritosh Sen’s elegant, vividly painted words
match the exuberance and delicacy of his pictures to offer an experience of art and life through encounters with nature. By recording the variety of bird, animal and insect life in and around
the Arjuna tree in his village, he reveals precious aspects of ecology: the chain of life and the interdependence of all living things. Both the books bring words and pictures together in their
own unique ways.
