ASHA FOR EDUCATION and TULIKA
Asha
for Education is a non-profit public benefit organisation. It has
come a long way since its humble beginnings in Berkeley in the
year 1991. It was started by a handful of Ph.D. scholars who were
dedicated to the cause of bringing education to the
underprivileged children of India. Today, the mission of the
organisation is to catalyze socio-economic change through the
education of underprivileged children. Clearly identifying,
researching, funding, and sustaining projects has formed the core
of Asha's activities till now.
Asha's
focus on basic education for children has galvanised a number of
volunteers across many cities of the US. Today there are more than
40 chapters in the USA, about seven in India five chapters in
Europe, one each in Singapore, Australia. In its effort to
encourage reading literacy all over the country, Tulika has put
together for Asha over 50 library packages in several regional
languages. Apart from Tulika's own books in Indian languages, the
packages include books sourced from other organisations such as
National Book Trust and Ekalavya.
