ROOM TO READ and TULIKA                

Started in California, USA, Room to Read is an international organisation spread over USA and Asia involved with education. In India, their objective is to provide educational infrastructure in rural areas and to lift female literacy rates. Working around Delhi and Rajasthan, they start from the understanding that a child's education needs, to begin with, an adequate learning environment and therefore help with construction of new schools and repair of old ones.
    Encouraging children to read and educate themselves outside the classroom, they are set up multilingual libraries in villages and stocking them with books both in English and in the local language. With its increasing number of titles for younger children in Indian languages other than English, Tulika is happy to be a part of this endeavour, reaching its books to as many children in as many parts of the country as possible.
