Hello/Hallo (Marathi)

Author : Deepa Balsavar
Illustrator : Deepa Balsavar

Hello says the sun to the bud. Hello says the rain, the bees, the butterflies, the birds, and Thambi. Hello the flower replies showing off its lovely petals. This beginner reader is part of the Thumb Thumb Books series, created around the common thumbprint and featuring Thumb Thumb Thangi and Thumb Thumb Thambi. Short sentences, bold type and vibrant visuals make entry into reading easy and exciting. At the end is a page for children to make their own thumbprint drawings – and the line ‘I can read this book’ affirms the young reader’s confident place in the word of books.

Very simple story-line

Creating simple storybooks is actually the trickiest. Hats off to the Tulika folks who made them - Biswajit Balasubramaniam, Deepa Balsavar, Radhika Menon, Jeeva Raghunath, Ashok Rajagopalan and Sandhya Rao! I bet anyone who sees them will go ga-ga just like my friend Ranjani (who mentioned it in an earlier post as one her family's top picks of the year) and me! Saffrontree.org
