One morning, a mother and child go in search of the sun. Their journey comes alive in a vast dotted landscape where lively birds, quick-footed animals and busy humans meet and share the forest, the river and the mountain… Where's the Sun? is a collaboration between a master Warli artist, a design student of IDC, IIT Mumbai, and the publishers. Roma Singh met Janu Bhiva Ravate at the Warli village in Maharashtra and sent photographs of his paintings to Tulika. The incredible detail and humour of his paintings inspired editor and writer, Niveditha Subramaniam, to string together this story, which the artist then recreated as one large painting on canvas
A charming story
Gloriously illustrated in the traditional Warli style, in which each spread is a work of art, with absolutely delightful portrayals of humans, animals, trees and birds. Shamim Padamsee, Young India Books
